CARBON UPCYCLING ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF ADVISORY BOARD

Advisory board members include current and former executives from Shell, World Cement Association, Carbonomics, and Kimmeridge.

Calgary, AB, October 19, 2021—
Carbon Upcycling Technologies, the innovative carbon utilization company, announced today the formation of an advisory board and the addition of four new advisors, including Michael Crothers, former President and Country Chair of Shell Canada; Ian Riley, CEO of The World Cement Association; Seth Baruch, CEO of Carbonomics; and Mark Hornett, former COO of Kimmeridge Energy’s Operations Group.

“Bringing this impressive group of advisory board members together from complementary industries is a testament to the promise of Carbon Upcycling’s technology and the strength of the team we’re building here,” said Apoorv Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbon Upcycling. “We are excited to tap into the deep knowledge and broad networks of this impressive group of advisors as we focus on scaling to meet demand for low-carbon goods and achieving our goal of reducing carbon emissions through productive use of carbon in concrete.”

“It’s exciting to be contributing to the next phase of development for Carbon Upcycling, which has such a promising and innovative concept to convert waste CO2 into a valuable product that society needs,” said Michael Crothers, who will be advising Carbon Upcycling on commercialization best practices and business development management. Michael has 37 years of operations, commercial, and leadership experience in the upstream, downstream, and integrated gas businesses, of which over 33 years were with Royal Dutch Shell.

“There’s been a huge upsurge in the voluntary carbon market recently, particularly as we’re all witnessing the increasing severity of the climate crisis, and therefore I believe that Carbon Upcycling is in a strong position to take advantage of this market trend because of the premium the market is specifically putting on carbon removals,” said Seth Baruch, CEO of Carbonomics, who will advise the company on carbon offset strategies and protocols.

Michael and Seth join the advisory board along with Ian Riley and Mark Hornett. Ian currently serves as the CEO at World Cement Association and is a Partner at WhitewaterTx, and Mark served as Chief Operating Officer of Kimmeridge Energy’s Operations Group and Managing Director of International asset and is currently a Member of the Kimmeridge Energy Advisory Board. Ian explains that “developers and other asset owners in both Europe and North America are showing serious interest in low or zero-carbon concrete. Carbon Upcycling’s technology can play an important part in delivering lower carbon concrete at scale and at a cost that is competitive with conventional products.” Ian’s excitement is echoed by Mark, who says he finds “the opportunity to be part of leading technology that can truly make a change very exciting.”

Carbon Upcycling is honoured to have Michael, Ian, Seth, and Mark join its advisory board and welcomes the wealth of knowledge that they have to offer.
