Developing the world’s first commercial-scale plant that produces cementitious material by sequestering CO2 into glass byproducts.
Project Overview
The project aims to use direct carbon conversion to chemically enhance supplementary cementitious materials for building construction. In this project, NREL and Carbon Upcycling are partnering to develop and demonstrate a framework to assess various SCMs available in North America, including biomass-derived SCMs and byproduct SCMs from high-emitting industries such as steel and mining, for their suitability as SCMs.
Support for this project comes from the Accelerating CCS Technologies (ACT) program.
