Long-time Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Executive, Juliane Kniebel-Huebner Joins Carbon Upcycling as Chief Operating Officer
CALGARY, CANADA, (September 24, 2024) – Carbon Upcycling Technologies, Inc. (“Carbon Upcycling”), a leading decarbonization and carbon capture & utilization (CCU) technology provider for hard-to-abate industries, announced today that Juliane Kniebel-Huebner will join the company as its Chief Operating Officer.
Juliane brings over 20 years of leadership experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors to Carbon Upcycling. She has held senior roles across both established and growth-oriented energy companies, most recently serving as Director of Western Canada Development at Capstone Infrastructure Corporation and Chief Operating Officer at Genalta Power Inc.
“Carbon Upcycling has pioneered an industry-defining technology that transforms CO2 and underutilized materials into low-carbon cement,” said Ms. Kniebel-Huebner. “Decarbonizing our built environment is a tremendous opportunity with cement and concrete being used everywhere in our most critical infrastructure like public buildings, renewables, data centers, resilience planning and more. I am excited to help lead Carbon Upcycling through its commercial growth and build a low-carbon future together.”
In her new role at Carbon Upcycling, Juliane will leverage her deep experience in project development, corporate structure building, team building and strategy. Her previous experience includes serving as a Strategic Advisor and Managing Director at Ventotec, a subsidiary of enercity AG, Germany’s tenth-largest energy service provider. There, she led the company’s largest restructuring project since deregulation, aligning its corporate structure with evolving market demands and positioning it for future growth in a competitive agile utilities sector.
“We are thrilled to welcome Juliane Kniebel-Huebner to Carbon Upcycling,” said Apoorv Sinha, CEO of Carbon Upcycling. “Juliane brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of the sustainability landscape, an invaluable asset as we scale our operations and drive the commercialization of our technology. Her vision aligns with our mission to become the most impactful carbon tech company of this decade by decarbonizing the world’s hardest-to-abate industries, beginning with cement.”
Carbon Upcycling, which recently achieved B Corp status, is currently developing its first-of-a-kind commercial carbon capture and utilization system at one of Canada’s largest cement plants with Ash Grove, a CRH Company, leader and pioneer in the cement industry. The project, which will enable a lower carbon cement to be used in the downstream concrete market, aligns with Canada’s national decarbonization plan.
